Adelheid B. Strelick
Guest Instructor

Adelheid B. Strelick, NYU Steinhardt Dance Education M.A. alumna with a concentration in American Ballet Theatre Ballet Pedagogy. She graduated with the inaugural class of ABT/NYU Master of Arts degree students and is also an ABT® National Training Curriculum Certified Teacher (Primary - Level 7, including Partnering). Adelheid graduated 1994 (B.F.A. in Dance) from the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt, Germany. She was a dancer and award-winning choreographer for 14 years with the ballet company of the Theater Ulm, Germany.

 As a Soloist, she performed in classical and contemporary ballets choreographed by former members of William Forsythe's Ballett Frankfurt and others. Currently an Adjunct-Professor at Adelphi University teaching the following courses: Dance History and Criticism, Dance Theory and Composition, Ballet, and Introduction to Pointe, along with their Pre-College Dance Programs. Also on Dance Theatre of Harlem’s School faculty teaching ballet and pointe, and a Teaching Artist in its outreach program, Dancing Through Barriers. Adelheid is involved in DTH’s Summer Programs in New York and Detroit, MI.

She is experienced in the private studio and professional dance environment with additionally teaching contemporary ballet, improvisation, and creative movement. Guest teaching opportunities involve Ballet History classes with the ABT/NYU M.A. program and ABT’s Young Dancer Summer Workshop, along with ballet and composition workshops at conferences and festivals. In New York Adelheid still takes an active role in the creative process, either by working together with various choreographers as a performer or by creating her own contemporary dance pieces. As a member of the National Dance Educators Association and CORPS de Ballet, International, Adelheid contributes to the dance community in a scholarly fashion with presentations at conferences.
